초록

Botulism is a neuroparalytic illness caused by the exotoxin of Clostridium botulinum. Although equine antitoxin or human immunoglobulin has been used for the treatment of botulism, minimize side effects. We designed an apoptotic cell-targeting Annexin V to Phosphatidylserine (PS) on the host’s apoptotic cells to enhance Botulinum Toxin (BoNT) neutralization. The apoptotic cell-targeting protein specifically binds to heavy chain of BoNT/A and Streptavidin-Linker-fused Annexin V protein (StAv-L-Annexin V) that targets the PS of host’s apoptotic cells. In the mouse model, bH9-6-StAv-L-Annexin V complex completely protected mice against BoNT/A, whereas the bH9-6 antibody-treated did not show any neutralizing ability. These results suggest that bH9-6-StAv-L-Annexin V complex might enhance BoNT/A neutralization by binding to apoptotic cells. Further study is © 2021. The Microbiological Society of Korea
