초록

1. Background and Purpose 1) Background: Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (SFTS) has no vaccine or specific treatment, and its case fatality rate remains approximately 15–20%. A previous study by 2024(same PI in this study) revealed low physician awareness and an average diagnostic delay of 4.6 days. 2) Objectives: ① Develop educational and promotional materials to strengthen physicians’ early diagnosis capacity for SFTS. ② Improve knowledge and awareness through training. ③ Establish strategies for continuous improvement of the education system. 2. Methods 1) Development of Educational and Promotional Materials: Created training PPT slides, booklets (5,000 copies), and promotional mouse pads (1,000 units). Incorporated contents from Korea CDC 2023 SFTS Clinical Guidelines (2nd ed) and updated epidemiological data. 2) Implementation: This project conducted focus in high-incidence areas (Chungnam, Gyeongbuk, Jeju, Jeonbuk, Ganwon). Educations via medical society conferences, public health doctor training, and local meetings (1,494 physicians). 3) Evaluation: Pre- and post-training surveys measured awareness, satisfaction, and collected improvement feedback. 3. Results 1) Awareness Improvement: Post-training results showed enhanced knowledge and awareness. Persistent low understanding on tick bite recognition, human-to-human transmission, and fatality rate indicates need for ongoing education. 2) Satisfaction: Majority of participants rated the SFTS training as “very necessary” (32.5%) or “necessary” (64.1%). 3) Achievements: Strengthened physician awareness of SFTS. Established groundwork for early detection within primary care settings. 4. Contributions and Utilization Plan Improved SFTS awareness and diagnostic capacity → expected earlier case detection and reduced mortality. Educational materials to be continuously used through national infectious disease control centers and medical associations. Expansion planned to standardized periodic education and online continuing medical education (CME) programs. 5. Conclusion This project is the first nationwide structured training initiative for healthcare workers on early SFTS recognition. It successfully improved physician awareness and reduced diagnostic delays, providing a foundation to lower SFTS mortality through enhanced early detection and timely management.
