Incubation Period of Pertussis During a School-based Outbreak, South Korea, 2024

Using data from a 2024 pertussis outbreak in South Korea, we estimated a median incubation period of 11 days (95% credible interval, 9-14) and a 95th percentile of 26 days (95% credible interval, 18-31), supporting 21-day monitoring of exposed contacts and vigilance beyond day 21 in ongoing outbreaks.Using a Bayesian interval-censored model on a 2024 school outbreak, this study estimates an 11-day median pertussis incubation period. The 95th percentile of 26 days supports extending contact monitoring beyond the traditional 21-day window.
